Challenge to turn £125 into as much as possible for charity

Latimer Hinks Solicitors, one of the North East’s leading law firms, is encouraging local businesses to take part in its unique charity competition.

The Darlington-based firm is holding a challenge which will see teams from 10 local businesses given £125, donated by Latimer Hinks, which they are to turn into as much money as possible.

The competition is being run in support of the Darlington and Bishop Auckland MRI Scanner Appeal, a fundraising initiative launched to bring the latest state-of-the-art MRI scanning technology to the two hospitals.

The competition will require innovation and teamwork to raise the money within a three month period. The competition will run until September 30th forming the final part of the firm’s 125th year anniversary charity fundraising efforts.

The winning team will be presented with a special award from Latimer Hinks. The company has already donated £7,500 towards the appeal.

The appeal, which is being run for the Charity of County Durham & Darlington NHS Foundation Trust, aims to raise £2.5m for the scanners, which will provide much improved scan images and a better experience for patients.

Anne Elliott, Chief Executive of Latimer Hinks Solicitors Limited, said: “This competition is a great opportunity for businesses in the region to get their thinking caps on and work together to raise money for a worthy cause.

“Having the most up to date technologies in place will aid the early detection of cancer, which is vitally important in the fight against this disease, and that is why we wanted to contribute to the Scanner Appeal. We hope that whatever is raised during the challenge will go some way to helping achieve the total needed, and encourage others to donate.”

Pat Chambers, Charity Manager for County Durham & Darlington NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We are delighted that Latimer Hinks is running this challenge in support of the scanner appeal, and we are looking forward to working with all the teams in the coming months.

“Any fundraising effort that involves the whole community not only creates benefits in financial terms, they also go a long way to raise the profile of the appeal, after all, you never know when you or a loved one might need a scan.”
