collaborative law

Collaborative Law is a relatively new and more dignified approach to dealing with family disputes. Its aim is to help couples resolve disputes with respect for each other and, critically, without going to court.

Family disputes can take an immense toll on your family, time and emotions. Financial resources are often sacrificed when they could be put to better use. A Collaborative approach to family law has several potential advantages:

  • It is dignified and non-aggressive
  • Court costs can be avoided
  • Both parties are better placed to maintain amicable contact with each other, family and friends
  • You maintain more control over events

If, as a couple, you wish to pursue this route you and your partner will both need to choose a specialist collaborative family lawyer. Everyone then works as a team, conducting negotiations face to face rather than by letter or phone. Both of you will have your lawyer by your side throughout the entire process so you receive legal advice as you go. In this way all issues are discussed openly and differences can be both expressed and resolved more easily.

If you feel that Collaborative Law is an approach you and your partner may like to pursue, then please contact Judith Middleton for more information.
