Deadline looms for Vibe Awards

THE DEADLINE is fast approaching for nominations for this year’s Vibe Awards - celebrating the very best of young people in Darlington for more than 21 Years. Would-be nominators have until Friday 12 May to put forward a young person aged between 10 and 19 for an award in one of four categories.

The Categories, all for ages 10 – 19, are:

•           Contribution to the Community

•           Contribution to the Arts

•           Achievement Against the Odds in Life

•           Achievement Against the Odds in Learning.

Awards organiser, Joanne Shutt, Young People’s Opportunity & Involvement worker for Darlington Borough Council, said:

“Year after year, the achievements of young people across the Borough never cease to amaze me. These awards celebrate achievement in lots of ways, not just academic but how young people have defied the odds to succeed in life or who have gone out of their way to help their local community.

“However, the success of the awards depends on people taking the time to make a nomination, and I call out to the local community to get in touch and let us know about a young shining star who deserves to be recognised.”

To nominate a young person visit www.clicktodo.co.uk or email click@darlington.gov.uk Nominations are open until Friday 12 May.

This year’s Awards evening will be held on Thursday 20 June at The Dolphin Centre. Once again, nominations will be shortlisted by a panel led by young people and the Award sponsors and special awards will go to the most inspiring nominations.

In the last ten years of the Vibe Awards, more than 3,000 children and young people have been recognised for the tremendous steps they have taken to achieve their goals, change their lives and those around them. Previous nominees have achieved much, such as completing a charity cycle from Lands’ End to John O’Groats and being youth leaders for Rainbow, Brownie and Guide groups and being an inspiration to other youngsters.

Latimer Hinks has for many years sponsored the Vibe Awards. The awards provide the opportunity to recognise the achievements of young people in Darlington and we would urge people to make a nomination – they deserve a “pat on the back.”

The Award evening is supported by category sponsors: The Northern Echo, Latimer Hinks Solicitors, Darlington College, QE Sixth Form, Vauxhall Sherwood’s and Durham Constabulary and performance sponsors Darlington Lions.
