Why we’re proud to have 10 fully qualified STEP members at our firm

The Society of Trust and Estate Planners (STEP) is now 30 years old, having been established in 1991 to inspire the confidence of families planning their assets and estates.

The worldwide professional body sets and upholds high professional standards, informs public policy, promotes education and connects practitioners on an international scale to share knowledge and best practice.

One of the ways to become a full STEP member – a benchmark many lawyers involved in Trust and Estate planning strive for – they must typically have at least two years’ experience in the profession and must also complete months of study for a STEP Diploma consisting of four modules followed by four exams lasting three hours, a process that typically takes a few years.

Having a STEP Diploma means the lawyer has both an academic and professional qualification recognised globally and industry-wide.

This means full STEP members are industry regulated, making them both trusted advisors and highly qualified Trust and Estate practitioners.

At Latimer Hinks, we are proud to have one of the largest contingents of STEP members in North Yorkshire and the North East.  Of the 11 lawyers in our Private Client team, 10 are fully qualified STEP members and with 195 collective years’ experience between us, we are well-placed to provide the best advice for our clients with an unrivalled edge as Trust and Estate planners.

As the higher legal qualification and legal standard of our particular field, being a full STEP member sets professional Trust and Estate planners apart from the rest.

We strongly believe people wanting estate, wealth and tax planning advice should only use fully STEP qualified people, following the STEP code of professional conduct.

This is why, as a firm, we have put a great emphasis on having STEP qualified lawyers – and are committed to having this in the future.

We look forward to our future with STEP and the next 30 years of producing full STEP members, known as TEPs.

This will keep Latimer Hinks at the forefront of the Trust and Estate planning industry and makes us internationally recognised as experts in our field, with proven qualifications and experience.
